“There is a judgment of the International Court of Justice, which must be properly implemented,” said Nathalie Loiseau (RENEW, France), Chair of the Security and Defense Subcommittee of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Relations, answering the question regarding the blockade of the Lachine Corridor at a press conference.
She emphasized that the European Parliament fully supports a fact-finding mission to the Lachine Corridor.
“The European Parliament also welcomes the idea of an international presence, in general, to fully protect the rights and interests of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh. We are also fully in favor of adopting a UN Security Council resolution. The sooner, the better it will be if the European members of the UN prepare a draft of such a resolution. I want to express my surprise that we met many Russian peacekeepers on the way to Goris and headed to the entrance of the Lachin Corridor. According to the cease-fire agreement of November 9, 2020, the role of Russian peacekeepers includes the protection of the civilian population of Nagorno-Karabakh and ensuring the free movement of people and goods through the Lachin Corridor. At least, I can say that we did not witness anything like that at the entrance to Lachine Corridor. Therefore, I can only express my surprise about why they do not implement that decision.”
