Aravot.am asked Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, the Leader of the Diocese of Tavush, what is the attitude of border residents of the region about the readiness of the country’s leadership to hand over the “enclaves.”
“Expressing the feeling of the majority, if I can reproduce it correctly, we have no question of compromising in any way. And this cannot be only a question of the road, crossings, territory, or pastures in any other way; this is directly about our right to exist; it is a threat in general.
Being our sacred motherland, it also threatens our existence in general. That means the Palestinianization of the Republic of Armenia and the Armenian people in general, restrictions in all respects, giving both your right to movement and the right to have a homeland directly to your enemies.
I don’t use the words opponent or neighbor; they are enemies. And there is no place for mitigation, so if we refer to the feeling of the people, it is often not formulated; it is an internal feeling; people think it is a purely military issue, entering the trenches, defending, etc.

But it is not a military problem; it is a problem of a political decision; therefore, these political decisions should be reversed. It is impossible to misdirect people, give them wrong ideas, and say that trenches should be protected. Many of our people say, for example, we will go, we will fill the ditches, we will not allow it.
I don’t understand that, yes, it’s very commendable that people feel that way, but the direction is wrong because it’s not a ditch issue; it’s a political decision, even a moral decision if you like, so, as I said, for us The word enclave, as such, should be wholly removed from the dictionary, it does not exist, this is our sacred homeland, it is our right to live,” said the Archbishop.
