“You are right, the representatives of Azerbaijan have not declared that they recognize our 29,800 square km territory and this is definitely a problem.” NA Deputy Speaker

June 27,2023 12:02

The members of the RA NA delegation to the PACE invited the journalists to an NA AM press conference. Aravot.am asked: Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated several times that we recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan with an area of 86,600 square kilometers, which includes Artsakh, but we have not heard any statement from Aliyev saying that he also recognizes Armenian territorial integrity with an area of 29,800 square km. Don’t you see something problematic here that we rushed to make that statement, and to what extent can we rely purely on Charles Michel’s statements?

The head of the delegation, NA Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan answered. “In any case, after the last meeting in Brussels, Charles Michel announced the recognition of each other’s territorial integrity by the two countries, and at least there was no denial from the Azerbaijani side after that.

But, yes, you are right, the representatives of Azerbaijan have yet to announce it themselves so far, and it is a problem. We are discussing this with international partners. But whether we were in a hurry or not, we need to understand a simple fact: RA needs our borders to be undisputed and uncontested. Because if there are borders that are contested, they can be violated under various pretexts. Azerbaijan tries to justify most of its military provocations with the absence of delimitation or other absurd ideas. Therefore, it is in the interests of RA to have undisputed borders.

Moreover, we have those borders; that’s a fact. Having no delimitation does not mean having no boundaries. Everyone knows what the borders of Armenia are. And we are working in the direction that Azerbaijan also declares them and fixes them.”
