“The policy of leaving Artsakh without Armenians is doomed to failure,” the Leader of the faction of the Artsakh Parliament

June 29,2023 13:30

Azerbaijan continues to grossly violate the provisions of the tripartite declaration of November 9, 2020, using drones and mortars, carrying out terrorist operations in the direction of Martuni and Martakert positions at night, as a result of which we had an irreparable loss of life. Artur Harutyunyan, the Leader of the “Free Motherland-UCA” faction, said this at the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh session.

“The complete blockades, the consistent policy of the Baku authorities to leave Artsakh without Armenians through the threat of force, and the use of force from time to time prove the existence of Azerbaijan’s ultimate goal of ethnic cleansing in Artsakh. Parallel to the American-mediated negotiation process and the rhetoric of the Azerbaijani diplomatic corps to prepare for peace, military aggression is being carried out in Artsakh, which is being done with the clear purpose of keeping the region tense, solving the Artsakh issue through depopulation and in a logical sequence of steps.

Unfortunately, against this political agenda, the mediating parties engaged in conflict resolution do not take substantive steps to provide a final and fair solution to the issue. Apart from the declarations, there is no sanction or objective political step to curb Azerbaijan’s terrorist policy. That is why Azerbaijan continues implementing its conspiratorial plan in an atmosphere of permissiveness,” he said.

According to Artur Harutyunyan, the primary purpose is the existing agreements regarding Azerbaijan’s energy resources, dependence on them, and the enemy’s attempts to use this factor. A situation has been created in which an attempt is made to satisfy Azerbaijan’s expansionist ambitions and to establish a false peace in the region at the expense of ceding the vital rights of Artsakh Armenians, including the right to self-determination.

“In the case of international actors, perhaps the fate of the people of Artsakh can be seconded to the agreements with Azerbaijan, but it is also a fact that the issue cannot be resolved that way. The policy of leaving Artsakh without Armenians is doomed to failure from the beginning. Because of this, not only will there be no peace, but also the region will enter a period of new escalations and clashes with unpredictable consequences and results, from which the international actors who are ready to make concessions at our expense may also suffer” Artur Harutyunyan said.
