“The summit of the European political community was not particularly a sensation for the Russian Federation. As early as 2022, a new political union was created at the proposal of French President Emmanuel Macron, which included countries outside the EU. It was supposed to become a platform for discussing issues related to security, prosperity, and economic growth.
Still, as in the Prague summit, this time again, the European issues should have been discussed. Still, issues related to the relations between Europe and Russia were discussed, naturally in a negative context,” the Sputnik Armenian press center noted Andrei Rusakov, Director of the Centre for Eurasian Studies, referring to the second summit of the European Political Community held in Moldova in June this year.
“The summit held in Moldova was not a sensation either; once again, it showed obvious anti-Russian sentiments, and some accents became clearer. At one time, the EU created a project called the Eastern Partnership, which included six countries, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, and three eastern countries – Belarus, Ukraine, and Moldova,” said Andrey Rusakov. He added that joining that structure led to meddling in the internal life of those countries. “In my view, the Eastern Partnership is non-existent. The European Political Community seems to be a reincarnation of the Eastern Partnership in a more rigid format. The countries included there, except for Belarus, were told either you cooperate with us or Russia.
Moreover, you cooperate on all issues, both conflicts and economic relations. I want to emphasize that the Russian Federation has not stopped its peacekeeping, peace-loving mission to resolve territorial conflicts and has always sought to involve international partners. Russia is committed to resolving disputes in the territorial conflicts of Armenia and Azerbaijan and Pridnestrovie, Ossetia, Georgia, and Abkhazia,” Rusakov added. According to him, the former Soviet countries of the Eastern Partnership are facing a difficult choice: with Russia or without Russia, because they have tremendous economic problems and are economically connected to the Russian Federation.
