To implement Nikol Pashinyan’s statement recognizing the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan in 86.6 thousand square kilometers, including Artsakh, and to turn it into a document, there is a specific procedure to go through according to the Constitution and laws of Armenia, so there is also time; said former Foreign Minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanian, adding that in this case, in his opinion, any initiative that can “collectively hold Pashinyan’s hand so that he does not sign such a document is worth participating in.”
Vardan Oskanian joined “HayaKve,” an initiative of the “Consolidation” movement that aims to keep Artsakh Armenian. “This is an important initiative, and I hope our people will sign it,” said Vardan Oskanian, adding that no former president of Armenia, no government has ever recognized Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan, regardless of what Nikol Pashinyan says, how will comment. “Pashinyan is the first leader of Armenia to have said something like this, and now he is trying to formalize it by signing relevant documents. It should not be allowed; we will regret this act for generations,” he said.
Answering the question about possible ways out of the current situation, Vardan Oskanian said. “Today, there is a serious alternative to what Pashinyan is trying to do. Now they are trying to present that the war was inevitable. War was not only not unavoidable but out of the question. Pashinyan brought the war on our people because of his mistakes. The facts of this are evident to everyone. Now they say in the same way that there is no alternative to what is going on, which is not the case. There is an assumption in circulation that what is happening today is also the international community’s wish; it is their compulsion, and all this is done under their pressure.
This assumption should be revised entirely and given a new perception. Yes, the international community is interested in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, but believe me, it is not that interested in how it will be decided. They follow the path that has been opened before them. They take the path that is easy to solve the problem. Today, Nikol Pashinyan shows the international community the easiest way- to hand over Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan. Of course, the international community will support Nikol Pashinyan to reach this conclusion. The moment the Armenian authorities give a new wording to the nature of the negotiations, believe me, there will be a drastic change in the position of the international community.” And the course of the negotiations, according to the former Foreign Minister, can be changed if the authorities dare to entrust the negotiations to others, and Pashinyan “keeps silent for three months and does not say anything.”
