We strongly urge the embassy of the USA in the Republic of Armenia to make official clarification on the statements of the ambassador

July 05,2023 15:45

The undersigned non-governmental organizations, representing the people displaced from the occupied regions of Artsakh, as well as from the territory of the Azerbaijani SSR, strongly condemn the recent statements made by Kristina Kvien, the ambassador of the USA to Armenia, on the people of Artsakh and the border situation of the Republic of Armenia.

The statement by the ambassador that the USA believes, that it is possible for Armenians of Artsakh to live safely and peacefully as a part of Azerbaijan is extremely concerning and unacceptable.

Azerbaijan is a hereditary dictatorship with radicalized Armenophobia. Azerbaijan, on the highest political level, including the head of state, uses offensive and dehumanizing language towards Armenians, implements violence and killings of people of Armenian nationality, creating inhuman conditions for those living in Artsakh. For more than 200 days, the only road connecting Artsakh to the world is blocked. For about a month, Azerbaijan totally restricted the import of food, medications and fuel into Artsakh. Azerbaijan periodically disallows the entrance and exit of the Red Cross vehicles to Artsakh, and when they allow the movement of the Red Cross vehicles, they are searching them. This is a grave and blatant violation of international law. Currently, such behavior is exercised by the Taliban and ISIS: entities considered terroristic by the USA itself.

And it is more confounding, that Miss Ambassador makes these statements the day before the Independence Day of her country. The gaining of independence by the USA is a remarkable manifestation of liberty and anticolonialism. Does Miss Ambassador believe that it was possible for the settlers of New England to live safely and peacefully as a part of the British Empire? Does Miss Ambassador believe that it is possible for Albanians of Kosovo to live safely and peacefully as a part of Serbia?

We, the undersigned representatives of non-governmental organizations, representing the people displaced from the occupied regions of Artsakh, as well as from the territory of the Azerbaijani SSR, vigorously oppose any statement or action, that is aimed against the rights and freedoms of the people of Artsakh.

We strongly urge the embassy of the USA in the Republic of Armenia to make official clarification on the statements of the ambassador.
