“If Nikol Pashinyan declares that he recognizes Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan, that Artsakh has a future as part of Azerbaijan, should the US Ambassador be more Armenian than Nikol?” In front of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Armenia, during a protest organized in support of RPA Vice-President Armen Ashotyan, Eduard Sharmazanov, a member of the RPA Executive Body, told reporters, referring to the statements of the US Ambassador to Armenia, Kristina Kvien.

Eduard Sharmazanov said he does not justify such reports of the US Ambassador, a Permanent Member of the UN Security Council, and the Co-Chairing country of the OSCE Minsk Group. Still, he asked why you are surprised if Nikol Pashinyan recognizes Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan.

“Nikol gave Artsakh to the Turks. We are not making as much noise as for the US ambassador’s statement. That statement radically contradicts the principles adopted by the USA, at least during Serzh Sargsyan’s presidency. During 2009-2013, five times US presidents, along with President Medvedev, Putin, Sarkozy, and Hollande, adopted a written statement in which the realization of the right to self-determination of the Nagorno-Karabakh people is mandatory.”

Eduard Sharmazanov said that they are collecting signatures, which is being joined by hundreds of thousands of people, including representatives of the Civil Contract. “Let’s give Artsakh, live well; it’s treason, a Turkish plan. We have to decide whether we want to remain citizens of Armenia. This is a problem above partisanship, even above politics. All national and state forces are obliged to unite for the sake of Armenian Artsakh and independent Armenia.”
