Tomasz Grodzki: “We understand that Armenians have to fight constantly throughout their history until now: We are very sorry for that situation”

The delegation led by the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan met with the Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland Tomasz Grodzki.

The RA NA President noted that Armenia is greatly concerned about further expanding multi-sectoral cooperation with Poland, adding that the role of effective inter-parliamentary contacts is important in the bilateral agenda.

He proposed to strengthen the cooperation of our parliamentary delegations on international platforms, particularly in sensitive issues for each other.

Many security challenges in the region were discussed at the meeting, including the belligerent statements of the Azerbaijani authorities and the continuous military provocations by the armed forces. Alen Simonyan highlighted the deployment of the European Union Observation Mission in Armenia. Touching upon the blockade of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan since December last year, the RA NA President spoke about the violation of the rights of the 120,000 Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh, mentioning that they were actually held hostage. The RA NA President informed his Polish colleague that the humanitarian situation is worsening day by day, and it is imperative to unblock the Lachin Corridor as soon as possible.

In this context, he expressed gratitude for the resolution passed by the Polish Senate on the blockade of the Lachin Corridor, calling for the immediate opening of the Corridor without preconditions.

The President of the Senate of Poland noted. “We understand that Armenians have to fight constantly throughout their history until now: We are very sorry for that situation.: He underlined that Poland is interested in establishing peace in the region, respecting the wishes and rights of the conflicting parties.

In response, the RA NA President underscored that Armenia is committed to the peace agenda in the South Caucasus.

At the end of the meeting, Alen Simonyan left a note in the Memory Book of the Senate.
