The official propagandists of Russia and Putin’s Armenian fans were pleased with the results of the NATO conference held in Vilnius. Their joy is because Ukraine was not invited to join that organization. NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg refused to specify when this would happen and again, as a precondition, mentioned the requirement of Ukraine to comply with NATO standards.
At the same time, the need for modernization, overcoming corruption, and ending the war are mentioned as criteria. The last reason is more powerful. If a belligerent country becomes a member of NATO, it will mean that the organization is “officially” involved in the war, which will, just as officially, herald the beginning of World War III.
But the Russian Government has no reason to be particularly happy because the military aid to Ukraine will continue and expand. In addition, Putin’s “best friend” Erdogan not only participated in the gathering of countries with hostile relations with Russia but also approved Sweden’s membership in NATO (it will soon become clear what the Turkish President “sold” this approval for). Do you remember one of the main pretexts for starting a war against Ukraine was the expansion of NATO? Putin achieved the exact opposite result.
In general, the authority of the Russian President is rapidly declining. The problem is more than the unsuccessful 1.5-year war. The story involving Prigodzin also hit Putin’s credit. The other day, he received the leaders of the illegal armed organization that organized a military uprising against him in the Kremlin, negotiated with them, and let them go unharmed instead of arresting and judging.
