“Official Yerevan rules it out, I also rule it out; it’s clear that there won’t be a Zangezur corridor,” said Syunik Governor Robert Ghukasyan in a conversation with journalists after the event dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine in Kajaran. He considered it pointless to address it because the phrase “Zangezur Corridor” is not in the documents nor discussed during the negotiations. Robert Ghukasyan urged to refrain from developing that talk.
“There is a clear position that it will not happen, and we must end it. Of course, Azerbaijan will try to put many issues on the agenda, but we should not put them on the agenda. Azerbaijan is provoking, doing everything to bring the issue to a forceful solution. We should be cautious and not spread the information received from there between us and here,” said the governor of Syunik.
Referring to the letter of Azerbaijani Non-Governmental Organizations addressed to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in which the latter demanded to stop the activities of Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine, Agarak Copper-Molybdenum Combine, Akhtala Mine, Gegharkunik Copper Smelter, the Governor of Syunik said that he is not interested in what letter the Azerbaijanis sent. “I think the relevant bodies will have already answered the letter; I don’t care what the Azerbaijani non-governmental organizations are doing. I repeat it, and I hope that similar statements do not spread too much in our country,” said Robert Ghukasyan.
The latter assured that the mining enterprises working in Syunik are responsible and use modern and latest technologies so that the damage to the environment is minimal.

“Mining cannot be without harmful effects, but the danger must be minimal. Works are being carried out on the development of tailings. As far as I know, they are not dangerous; some standards must be followed,” concluded Robert Ghukasyan.
