The Kapan International Music Festival ended with the joint performance of Vardan Hovsepyan Jazz Trio, musicians Arto Tunçboyacıyan and Norayr Kartashyan.
During the 10-day festival, residents of Kapan had the opportunity to enjoy classical music. In addition to concerts, many gifted children and young people of Syunik participated in master classes and workshops of famous musicians from abroad and Armenia, enriching their musical knowledge and improving their skills.
Remember that the festival’s idea was the cellist Sevak Avanesyan, who lives in Belgium and is from Kapan by roots. On his initiative, the piano with the unique sound of the “Steinwat D 274” class found its place on the stage of the organ hall named after Vahagn Stamboltsyan of the Kapan Art College. Apart from the new piano, another piano from the art college was also repaired.

“Hayk Abelyan, the best and unique master of piano repair and maintenance, came to Kapan, looked at all the pianos, and said that the best one was the piano that was abandoned on the third floor. We repaired it in two months, and it was like our new piano. Even after tuning, Hayk felt that one of the notes could sound better; he went to Yerevan at night, fixed the string, and returned,” says Sevak Avanesyan.
On the days of the festival, the hall of the art college was complete, and many had to stand for several hours to listen to the works of Armenian and world classics. At the solemn closing ceremony of the festival, Kapan students, who stood out for their activity in the master classes, were encouraged by the initiative of “Miasin-Together” NGO with monetary awards and one-time scholarships named after American-Armenian poet Sona Van, and with scholarships of Kapan swiss player Ararat Petrosyan, AGBU European President Nadia Gortzounian, Maria Grazia Tanese, and Sasun Arakelyan.
Let’s remind you that Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine and Kapan Municipality supported the unprecedented festival organized in the regional center of Syunik. By the way, the organizers promised to make it traditional.
