Educational Organizations Unite, Pen Letters, and Seek Meeting to Address Urgent Crisis in Artsakh
Yerevan, Armenia – A collective of educational organizations, under the banner of the Civil Initiative for Educational Rights, has come together to address a pressing humanitarian crisis affecting the children of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
Amidst the ongoing violations of children’s right to education, these organizations have taken decisive actions, including writing letters and requesting a meeting, to urgently resolve the situation.
Since December 12th, 2022, the Goris-Stepanakert Highway, the sole road connecting Artsakh to Armenia, has been blocked, causing severe disruptions in essential supplies for the region’s 120,000 residents, including 30,000 children. This blockade has created an extreme humanitarian crisis, jeopardizing the right to life and education of the vulnerable children in Artsakh.
In response to this dire situation, educational organizations, which include [Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST), Ayb Educational Foundation, Teach For Armenia Educational Foundation, Armenian Missionary Association of America (AMAA), One Voice Armenian Association of Independent schools, TUMO Center for Creative Technologies, Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises (UATE), Children’s Rights Center Of Armenia NGO, Armenian Educational Foundation, KASA Swiss Humanitarian Foundation, Hidden Road Initiative, We are Our Mountains territorial development agency, Scholae Mundi Armenia Charity Foundation, Climate Uturn, Shirakatsy Lyceum International Scientific-Educational Complex] have united their efforts and penned letters urging the international community, including the UN, EU, EC, ICRC, and diplomatic corps, to take immediate action to protect the rights and lives of the affected children.

The initiative firmly asserts that this blockade directly violates fundamental human rights, particularly the right to education.
Seeking to engage in constructive dialogue and find viable solutions, the Civil Initiative for Educational Rights urgently requests a meeting with relevant stakeholders.
The objective is to present up-to-date information about the situation on the ground, explore measures to ensure the basic rights to food, water, and life for the children of Artsakh, and emphasize the paramount importance of preserving their right to education amidst the crisis.
By joining forces, the Civil Initiative for Educational Rights aims to place the right to education of the children in Artsakh at the forefront of the international agenda.
The initiative believes that united efforts and collaboration are essential in mitigating the humanitarian disaster and safeguarding the future of these children.
