As you may already be aware, widespread public talks have been unfolding around Sergey
Smbatyan, the Founder, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Armenian State
Symphony Orchestra, causing confusion within both local and global artistic communities and
audiences. We keep receiving large numbers of messages from Armenian and international
partners, distinguished figures of the artistic world and fans of Maestro Sergey Smbatyan and
the orchestra, and we extend our appreciation to everyone for their support, warm words, and
sound judgment on the current developments.
We are confident that with appropriate observation of impartiality and integrity in legal
processes, Sergey Smbatyan will soon be able to resume his artistic activities, which hold great
significance both for the Maestro himself and for Armenia.
We earnestly hope for the timely replacement of the heated uproar with more balanced
information and analysis. We also hope that sensible decisions will be reached, allowing Sergey
Smbatyan the chance to continue leading the orchestra until the investigation is concluded. With
all due respect to the law enforcement system, we must emphasize that enabling Maestro
Smbatyan’s unhindered international cultural engagement is crucial for upholding the esteemed
reputation of the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra and the Republic of Armenia.
