From July 20 to August 3, sociologists of “FOCUS” conducted a telephone survey among the residents of Baku. Almost 72% of the respondents admitted that they do not believe in peace with Armenians. At the same time, nearly 62% stated that Artsakh is now under siege.
Opinions about the fate of Artsakh are divided; every third of Azerbaijani believes that Armenians will leave Artsakh, and every fourth believes that military force will be used. More than 18% of the survey participants believe in the voluntary integration of Artsakh Armenians into Azerbaijani society. The absolute minority, less than 5%, believes that Artsakh will remain independent.
Anti-Armenian sentiments are powerful in Azerbaijan. Almost 43% of the respondents agreed that the Armenians of Artsakh would be killed, and 24% agreed that the Armenians would be driven out of there. Only 28% of Azerbaijanis are close to the idea of coexistence with Artsakh Armenians and helping them.
The survey participants see Erdogan (92.6%), Michel (76.1%), and Biden (72.3%) as the main allies of Azerbaijan in the struggle for Artsakh. Among the answers to the survey, the most painful thing is that the residents of Baku see Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu (70%) as almost equal to RA’s de facto Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan (67.4%) among allies. Zelensky (57.7%) and Putin (48.5%) are also on this list of partners. They consider Macron (24.8%), Gharibashvili (12.5%), and Iranian President Raisi (10.7%) to be a side person.
