Azerbaijan is preparing a serious aggression։ Armen Baghdasaryan

Political scientist Armen Baghdasaryan (pictured) does not consider the statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan that “Armenia is concentrating a large number of weapons and military equipment on the border for military adventure…” as another provocative misinformation. Let’s remind that the statement of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan also said that “such actions of Armenia show that Yerevan has not stopped its territorial claims against Azerbaijan, and the verbal recognition of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity is different from actions on the ground.”

Based on this, Azerbaijan reserves the right to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity by all legal means provided by the UN Charter and other universal international law documents.”

“I won’t say it is the next one because I don’t remember Azerbaijan speaking with that rhetoric. Usually, they were talking about provocations; now, they are talking about large-scale techniques. As a rule, Azerbaijan makes such statements while preparing its aggressive actions. Now, its scale seems to have increased, which means that the probability of possible large-scale aggression by Azerbaijan has also increased. Moreover, it was conceivable because the international reactions and pressures surrounding the blockade of Artsakh are becoming increasingly active.

Azerbaijan understands that it cannot continue like this for a long time and must somehow get out of this situation. There are two options. The first is to open the way, which Azerbaijan is categorically against, and the second option is large-scale clashes to provoke a new war to complete their plan to depopulate Artsakh under this noise. This statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan cannot be considered as another disinformation, this should be taken more seriously, and an appropriate response should be given, not only in the form of denial but perhaps by inviting international structures to the border zone and show on the spot that there is no such thing and show that in reality, Azerbaijan is preparing serious aggression,” the political scientist told Aravot.am.

According to the impression of our interlocutor, because Azerbaijan already saw that it could not get a corridor through Syunik directly through negotiations, it switched to plan B. “Which, in my opinion, is as follows. Carry out ethnic cleansing, depopulate Artsakh once and for all, and in the second stage, in the final document of the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations, fix the return of Azerbaijani refugees to the territory of Armenia, including Syunik, Sevan Basin, Ararat Valley, etc.

And on a separate point, to raise the question of military fines against Armenia, instead of which, if Armenia cannot pay, they can demand, for example, a lease of territories from Armenia, the right to operate mines for certain periods, etc. In that way, in fact, some territories of Armenia will be completely taken under their control. I think they also have this plan in their heads and are now implementing it.

This program also does not cross any of the red lines mentioned by Nikol Pashinyan. Because Pashinyan says that our red line is the 29, 8000 square meters of the sovereign territory of Armenia, but if Azerbaijanis live in that sovereign territory, if those territories are leased for certain periods in exchange for military fines, Azerbaijan will de facto tear territories from Armenia, but it will remain Armenia on paper. Nikol Pashinyan will also say: I kept the red lines I said.”
