After the press conference held in Goris on August 30, when Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo was already on her way to Yerevan, she was approached by the daughter of Vagif Khachatryan, who is in Azerbaijani captivity.
It should be remembered that on July 29, representatives of the border guard service of Azerbaijan kidnapped Vagif Khachatryan, a medical patient being transported from Artsakh to Armenia in a Red Cross vehicle going to Armenia for an operation. They took him out of the car, pushing him and not allowing the representative of the Red Cross to get into their vehicle as well. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan announced that he was arrested. According to the indictment, Vagif Khachatryan allegedly created a criminal group, which, on December 21, 1991, participated in the crimes against the residents of Meshali village of Khojaly region.
Vera Khachatryan mentioned that she came to Goris from Jermuk and asked the mayor of Paris to help free her father. “I am asking you to help me with this issue. My father has not contacted me for a month. My father is innocent and sick,” said Vera Khachatryan. Ann Hidalgo, wishing her and her family strength and courage, said she would take care of him to the best of her ability.
