“To make Armenia a beneficiary of it in the future, the national forces must be able to face all internal challenges today,” said Artak Zakaryan, former Deputy Minister of Defense and a member of the Supreme Body of the Republican Party of Armenia, in an interview with “Aravot.”
– There is a point of view that in Artsakh, where the processes have entered a critical stage, by carrying out a change of power, it is possible to weaken the positions of the Armenian government and achieve a change of power here. Do you agree?
– Irrespective of what will happen in the internal political life of Artsakh, the change of power in Armenia has been a matter of course for a long time. Until this issue is resolved, there will be no positive development. Making asphalt is not the main problem of our country, but security, which these “capitulates” have completely failed. Anyone can do asphalting or tiling the sidewalks. It is an ordinary “foreman” case. In this situation, we need an honest, experienced government dealing with the security of Armenia and Artsakh, the rights of our citizens, unity, solidarity, defense capability, and beneficial foreign policy.
– How would you interpret everything happening in Artsakh, including the kidnapping of young people crossing the Hakari checkpoint with the tacit consent of Russian peacekeepers? Is Russia unwilling or unable to fulfill its obligations assumed on November 9?

– Russia, as well as other powers, will fulfill their assumed obligations and international role if the so-called authorities of Armenia first protect the Armenian people’s interests. They cannot be more Armenian than us. It is, of course, too bad that the Russian peacekeepers practically did not intervene or could not prevent the abduction of our compatriots. But we also need to talk about why our strategic ally is behaving this way concerning us. When the mayors of the French cities come to Armenia with humanitarian goods for the humanitarian disaster and starving Artsakh and see that the ruling political power of Armenia is holding concerts in Yerevan and the regions, what should they think about us?
In other words, the Russians, the French, and the Americans should fight with our enemy, and we, together with the authorities of the country that is constantly attacked and occupied by the enemy, should talk about asphalt, concerts, and pensions. It doesn’t happen that way. It is a political disaster and a nation-destructive activity in the current situation.
– What other events can we witness?
– If a change of power is not achieved, unfortunately, good events will not happen. Nikol brought the country to this disastrous situation in just five years from the happy and favorable position left by Serzh Sargsyan. What do you want to expect from Nikol, who is in a catastrophic situation? A miracle? There are no miracles in politics, especially since the so-called authorities of your country have a conspiratorial and nation-destructive attitude and are guided by manipulative and deceitful behavior. Finally, I want to add an observation that may become very likely. As an artificial state, Azerbaijan may appear on the verge of destruction. To make Armenia a beneficiary of this in the future, the national forces must be able to face all internal challenges today.
