Members of Armenia-Germany Friendship Group Meet with Delegation Led by Chairman of the Committee for Federal and European Affairs, Media and Culture of Landtag Saxony-Anhalt

We highlight very much the multilateral and multi-vector development of Armenia-Germany relations. We are glad to record that in recent period the cooperation between the two countries dynamically develops. Germany is also one of the best examples of the federal government for us, and emphasize very much also the cooperation between the local self-government bodies of Armenia and Germany Landtags.

The Landtag Saxony-Anhalt being a peer with the Republic of Armenia, has an important role in the development of relations between the entities of Armenia and Germany: The Head of Armenia-Germany Friendship Group Vladimir Vardanyan said, welcoming the delegation led by the Chairman of the Committee for Federal and European Affairs, Media and Culture of Landtag Saxony-Anhalt Daniel Sturm.

The meeting took place on September 12, where the members of Armenia-Germany Friendship Groups also took part.

“We had an honour to be in Landtag Saxony-Anhalt and represent Armenia within the framework of the Cultural Days of Armenia,” Vladimir Vardanyan noted.

Thanking the members of the Friendship Group for warm reception, Daniel Sturm noted that the partnership is not written only on the paper. “Yesterday we were in Armavir Marz/Region, visited one of Armavir schools, where the level of the German teaching is at very high level. We met and talked with the Head of Armavir Region,” the Head of the delegation said.

The Head of the RA NA Armenia Faction Seyran Ohanyan attached importance to the dynamic development of the Armenian-German relations, noting that it is appreciated that within the framework of the territorial proportional development of every country the relations of the regions are developing. He thanked the delegation members that in this difficult period are next to Armenia. Speaking about regional security issues, Seyran Ohanyan presented the crimes committed by Azerbaijan – the circumstance of keeping Nagorno Karabakh under blockade.

Vladimir Vardanyan noted that in recent period a number of statements made by the German Minister of Foreign Affairs on unblocking the Lachin Corridor had a serious role on the European global perception of the situation. He thanked the Government of Germany for allocating 2 million Euros to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for showing humanitarian assistance to Nagorno Karabakh. “Germany has a very balanced position on the ongoing developments in the South Caucasus. But today to have a balanced position in the situation created around Armenia, Azerbaijan and Nagorno Karabakh means to balance the aggressor with the victim,” Vladimir Vardanyan noted, adding: “Our request is to try supporting the Armenian democratic values at federal level and the fair demands presented by the Armenian people based on international law.”

Zaruhi Batoyan stressed the role of Germany in the framework of the implementation of the EU Civil Observation Mission, noting that the Armenian highly appreciate that factor even in the fragile conditions of relative peace.

The sides also discussed a number of agenda items concerning the education and cultural cooperation.
