“We continue to say that using the Akna-Askeran road is unacceptable:” Ruben Vardanyan

September 14,2023 11:15

“We continue to say that using the Akna-Askeran road is unacceptable,” said Ruben Vardanyan, the Coordinator of the Public Movement “Front of Security and Development of Artsakh” and former Minister of State of the Republic of Artsakh, on Facebook Live, answering the citizens’ question.

He noted that they continue to claim that they have six clear red lines, which are unacceptable: “We are talking about maintaining the status quo of Artsakh, which is a red line. We must have a free corridor connecting Armenia and the world, and this red line has been violated. When Azerbaijan established a checkpoint on April 23, we declared it was a red line; it was unacceptable.

In the same way here, when we understand that the checkpoint and the Lachin Corridor are not working and try to use the Akna-Askeran road, it is the continuation of the red line, the same way we said it is unacceptable. We continue to say that this road is unacceptable because it is the inner way. And we should have a connection with Armenia without restrictions.”

According to Vardanyan, the position of the movement has stayed the same, and even before Araik Harutyunyan’s resignation, they made a statement and said that the government should make the decision and it should be informed to the people.

“Whether people accept it or not, it’s one thing, it’s a red line. It’s just that you can fight in different ways. That struggle can be through media, legal, blocking the road, or in other ways that the committee decides. Understanding what is happening in Artsakh, we decided that we will not fight in the way that we will lie down under the cars; that is already the committee’s decision. The passports Azerbaijan offers, changing the dram, infrastructures, etc., are also a red line. Yes, we should have red lines and fight when they fail. Another thing is that there exists an Artsakh government that has the right to make decisions.”
