“Our transport reform is not finished yet, but we are in a good part of the implementation,” said Tigran Avinyan, the candidate for Mayor of Yerevan of the “Civil Contract” party, in a briefing with journalists the other day.
“When we used to have many Gazelles and many lines, it was of poor quality. Now we have fewer lines buses with a larger capacity, but their number is also less. And, yes, inconveniences can be created for people – they must walk more. But I can firmly say that they will travel with very convenient transport, which will always be on time at the end of next year. We will launch a unified ticket system allowing us to use the metro and other transport with transport cards. And the transport reform includes another component: separate bus lanes, on which only buses travel,” Avinyan said.
To the question of how realistic he considers the construction of a cable car and a new metro station, Tigran Avinyan answered: “I consider the construction of Ajapnyak metro by 2028 very realistic. By 2026-2027, I consider it very realistic to launch the road from the 6th massif of Nor Nork to Nor Marash and the City- Center. And I also consider it very realistic to build a new metro station near the Surmalu shopping center by 2026. And I think these are the most important new hubs of our public transport, which will significantly relieve the burden on our city.”
