The representatives of the authorities of Russia and Armenia claim that now, in this situation, Armenians can live in a dignified and safe manner in Artsakh, under the control of Azerbaijanis. I don’t believe they think so. For nine months, those people were kept under siege; they were deprived of electricity and gas, and now they will suddenly start treating them like human beings. In a country where hatred towards Armenians is instilled from kindergarten and Ramil Safarov, who axed a sleeping Armenian, is de facto presented as a national hero?
Should the government of Azerbaijan show that humanistic attitude, which presented to the leadership of Artsakh a list of thousands of Artsakh men aged 18-65, whom it accuses of “terrorism” and for whom, according to news, a “filtration camp” is being built? Should the Azerbaijani army, which entered the village of Vardadzor a few days ago, shoot the elderly couple in their house, and then kill the son who came to take his parents away should respect their dignity? The army whose shells killed five children these days? The army that displayed Kyaram Sloyan’s severed head in Azerbaijani villages 2016?
I don’t think, I repeat, that Pashinyan or Peskov, who now “have no impression” that ethnic cleansing is being carried out in Artsakh, are so naive and believe in the “miraculous transformation” of Azerbaijani politics. Therefore, there can be two reasons for their “naive optimism.” 1/ Both do not dare to oppose the genocidal plans of Turkey and Azerbaijan. 2/ Pashinyan fears that the thousands of migrants who will appear in Yerevan will create a threat to his government.
I do not rule out, of course, that there may be individual Artsakh residents who agree to live under the rule of Azerbaijan. If so, that is their choice; no one can be the judge of those people. But those Artsakh citizens who do not want to live there in this situation should not be kept against their will in Stepanakert; they should have the opportunity to evacuate.
