A tragedy and a shame

September 29,2023 10:30

In November 2020, one of the most tragic and shameful pages in the history of our nation was opened. In September 2023, the most tragic lines of that page were written. Here, unfortunately, I have to add that such lines will be written in the near future. Tens of thousands of Armenians became emigrants and left the land where their ancestors lived for thousands of years. Gandzasar and Amaras are in the hands of the enemy and will definitely be defiled.

The enemy captured Ruben Vardanyan and accused him of terrorism. I think those whose brains are not clouded by government propaganda will now understand that there can be wealthy people ready to sacrifice their comfort, well-being, freedom, and even life for the sake of an idea they believe in. Former Foreign Minister of Artsakh Davit Babayan is also in the hands of the enemy. I think the enemy will also take revenge on several other former and current leaders of Artsakh.

But in this series of tragic events, I see a bigger problem. It is a tragedy and a shame that the citizens of Armenia continue to tolerate Nikol Pashinyan’s rule. It is a tragedy that Civil Contract members and other government propagandists continue to give “pro-state” speeches and write statuses where they “prove” that the Russians and the people of Karabakh are guilty of everything. Tragically, the same propagandists continue to repeat the nonsense about Vardanyan being “sent by Putin” and “Tatarstan.” Tragically, the government’s “factory of fakes” spreading curses and threats continue to work with the same momentum.

The problem is not that people have lost their conscience. There will always be such (let me use the famous word) “upstarts.” It is a tragedy that the insults, which should seem repulsive and despicable, continue to be voiced without meeting resistance and, one might say, officially.

How will society react if someone says that there was no genocide in 1915 and Enver and Talaat had to do what they did to two million Armenians? I think it will cause the anger of the Armenian society. But everything is still ahead. Such conversations will become commonplace in a few years if this continues. Overton’s window is open.
