On September 28, the RA NA President Alen Simonyan met the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of France Yaël Braun-Pivet in Dublin. Expressing gratitude for the initiative of the meeting, the RA NA President noted that the most pessimistic predictions regarding the policy and aggression implemented by Azerbaijan have actually come true.
The parties discussed the problems caused by the displacement of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh. Ideas were exchanged about the necessity of imposing international sanctions on Azerbaijan. Alen Simonyan underscored that France is the true ally of the Armenian people and Armenia and expressed conviction in the continuation of France’s efforts to ensure Armenia’s security. He mentioned that he expects the French National Assembly and the Senate to express their attitude regarding the tragic events that have taken place and are ongoing. The French colleague expressed his support to the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and noted that he will make all the efforts to stabilize the situation. The parties touched upon the prevailing regional concerns, the direct bearer of which is Armenia as well.
Ideas were exchanged on the necessity of condemnation of Azerbaijani policy by the international community. At the end of the meeting, the RA NA President thanked the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna for the statement to open a consulate in Syunik made in the French Parliament.
