The “Armenia” International Music Festival annually brings together musicians of world renown in Yerevan, Armenia. A remarkable constellation of legendary superstars of classical music, including Gil Shaham, Gautier Capuçon, Steven Isserlis, Mischa Maisky, Joseph Calleja, Mikhail Pletnev, Pavel Gililov and other prominent soloists have been among the guest artists of the festival throughout the seven years of its history. This year, the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra has once again invited a lineup of brilliant performers and conductors, many of whom are visiting Armenia for the first time. Notably, they will also be featuring works by Armenian classical and modern composers.

British conductor John Warner is among the guests of the  “Armenia” International Music Festival. He is Founder and Artistic Director of Orchestra for the Earth, Music Director of Oxford Opera, Chief Conductor of Central London Orchestra and has conducted orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic.

Led by John Warner, the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra performed Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s suite from the opera-ballet “Mlada” and Alexey Shor’s “Travel Notebook” piano concerto as part of the “Armenia” festival. The conductor highlighted the thoughtfully curated concert program that features classical composers of various eras.

Speaking about Alexey Shor, Warner emphasizes that he is a very famous contemporary composer in the world, and his work “Travel Notebook”, which consists of several parts, represents the author’s feelings accrued through his visits to different countries.

It’s an exciting challenge to convey the composer’s emotions through musical notes, aiming to evoke the same feelings in the listeners through the interplay of sounds.

This is the first cooperation of the conductor with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra. In his words, “The Armenian Symphony is a wonderful orchestra to work with in a pleasurable, warm and intimate atmosphere.” The conductor says he didn’t need much talking with the musicians, as they do their job and feel each other and the music.

John Warner founded the Orchestra for the Earth and it’s interesting to know his feelings as he sees his own life orchestra thrive.

Maestro notes that it involves a lot of emotion to follow the development of your orchestra‚ his ideas and vision are coming true thanks to the orchestra.

The 7th annual “Armenia” International Music Festival is held with the support of the Tourism Committee of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia․
