We had a meeting with H.E. Mr. Patrik Svensson, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden in Armenia, and Klas Waldenström, the Head of Development Cooperation, Deputy Head of Mission.
Together with my colleagues from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), Lusine Gharakhanyan and Azatoohi Simonyan, we continue the series of meetings with our international partners, during which we mainly discuss two areas of issues:
Humanitarian issues of Armenians from Artsakh,
Issues related to the future of the Republic of Artsakh and its people.
We presented to the Mr. Ambassador the situation in Artsakh, where barely 4 dozen citizens live, who are mostly elderly, with health problems and unable to come to Armenia.

At the meeting, we raised the issues of property and historical-cultural heritage of the people of Artsakh, requesting the Ambassador to support the preservation of religious monuments, parts of the world heritage, houses and graves of Armenians.
I emphasized the urgency of solving the issue of Armenian prisoners and hostage-taking of the military-political leadership of Artsakh, asking to make efforts towards their return.
As for the future of Artsakh, I noted that the right to self-determination of the people of Artsakh should be recognized by the example of Kosovo’s independence, which will enable our compatriots to return to their homeland under strong international guarantees.
The humanitarian issues of the people of Artsakh and the ways of their long-term solution were also discussed.
Mrs. Lusine GHARAKHANYAN, the Former Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Artsakh, Mrs. Azatoohi SIMONYAN, Advisor to the Artsakh President on Education Affairs, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Artsakh on Diaspora Affairs, Chairwoman of the Board of the “GOY” Humanitarian Foundation, and I expressed our gratitude to Sweden for the humanitarian support within the framework of various programs, which the Kingdom of Sweden provided for the Republic of Armenia and NK Armenians through its partners and via EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
In his speech H.E. Mr. Svensson mentioned that he stands by the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia. Sweden supports Armenia’s democratic aspirations and reforms in the country. He underscored the pivotal focus of the European Union on matters pertaining to Armenia.
