“In general, opening and using any infrastructure brings positive and useful results to the countries that have that infrastructure,” Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Gnel Sanosyan said in a briefing with journalists in the parliament, referring to the possible opening of the Armenian-Turkish border for citizens of third countries. Nikol Pashinyan announced yesterday in the parliament: “Shortly, we will have the implementation of the agreements reached as a result of discussions and negotiations of special representatives, which refers to the following: the Armenia-Turkey border will be opened at this stage for citizens of third countries and holders of Diplomatic Passports. I must also say that in addition to the political agreement, significant infrastructural work has also been done; in particular, we have worked on re-equipment and rehabilitation at the Margara checkpoint, and in this regard, we are, in fact, already ready for such developments. We hope that these agreements will be implemented.”
Gnel Sanosyan added: “As for Margara, some construction and furnishing work is taking place there, which is being carried out by the partners of the State Revenue Committee and the Urban Development Committee. As for when exactly the checkpoint will start working, I can’t say; the negotiators are dealing with that part.” The Minister also said he had gone to Georgia as part of the delegation led by Nikol Pashinyan, where they presented their vision of achieving peace in the region. “I was in the hall where the concept of the “Peace Crossroads” was presented, and I can state that both in the hall and during direct discussions with various partners, the speech, the concept, and the proposals were perceived quite positively. And I think it will have certain positive effects and consequences,” he added.
