ANCA Local Chapters Endorse Chris Holden for Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors

PASADENA, CA – The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Crescenta Valley, Hollywood, and San Fernando Valley – East chapters have endorsed Assemblymember Chris Holden in his bid to represent the 5th District of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

“I am grateful to be endorsed by ANCA chapters representing our region,” remarked Assemblymember Chris Holden in a statement to the ANCA. “I am proud of the partnership built with ANCA to ensure the State of California has a strong relationship with the global Armenian community. We have collaborated on legislative efforts to condemn the blockade of Artsakh, divest from Turkish assets, establish a sister city relationship with Syunik, and secure funding to upgrade summer camp facilities for our youth. I look forward to continuing this advocacy for the Armenian community and the partnership with ANCA as a Los Angeles County Supervisor.”

Assemblymember Chris Holden was first elected to the State Legislature in 2012, representing the 41st Assembly district, which includes Pasadena, Altadena, La Canada-Flintridge, and the foothill communities. During his time in the State Legislature, Assemblymember Holden has championed the Armenian-American community’s legislative priorities, including the establishment of a sister state relationship between California and Syunik amid Azerbaijan’s threats to southern Armenia, as well as leading a resolution condemning Azerbaijan’s blockade of Artsakh and calling on the U.S. Government to hold Azerbaijan accountable by cutting military assistance and imposing sanctions on Baku’s authoritarian regime.

“Assemblymember Holden has been a long-time friend and champion of the Armenian-American community of Los Angeles throughout his time in the California State Legislature,” remarked ANCA Pasadena representative Nora Bogharian. “We are pleased to endorse him in his bid for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and look forward to continuing to work with him to uplift and elevate the Armenian-American community in the 5th District.”

Assemblymember Holden has also played a central role in securing vital state resources for Armenian-American community programs and organizations, including the $2 million allocated earlier this year to support the Armenian Youth Federation’s (AYF) two campgrounds in Big Pines and Twin Valley near Wrightwood, which fall within Assemblymember Holden’s district.

“Assemblymember Holden has always fought for our community,” remarked ANCA National Board Member Aida Dimejian. ”From deepening ties between the State of California and Armenia, supporting the people of Artsakh in the face of threats by Azerbaijan, to empowering our community here in Southern California – Mr. Holden has been a true leader on issues of concern to Armenian-Americans.”

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is the five-member governing body of Los Angeles County, representing over 10 million residents and responsible for an annual budget of over $40 billion covering a wide range of services, including transportation, social services, law enforcement, voter registration, and public health. The 5th District includes densely Armenian-populated areas, including Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, La Canada-Flintridge, Crescenta Valley, Montrose, Sunland-Tujunga, Sun Valley and parts of Los Feliz, Hollywood Hills, North Hollywood and Sherman Oaks.
