Stay away from global games

November 03,2023 10:30

Maria Zakharova, the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, once again collected her “bunch” of grievances against the Armenian leadership and presented it during her regular briefing. Anna Hakobyan went to Kyiv, Alen Simonyan communicated with his Ukrainian counterpart, Pashinyan met Zelensky in Granada, and the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia took part in an “anti-Russian” (i.e. “pro-Ukrainian”) event in Malta. In addition, the media related to the RA government publish “anti-Russian” publications.

Probably, there are specific differences of views between the “different towers” of the Kremlin, or at least a division of roles, because Zakharova’s (Lavrov’s) statements on the Armenian topic are much tougher than Peskov’s (Putin’s). From this, any overtly unfriendly steps toward Armenia from Russia are not expected.

In principle, as I have already written many times, I consider the so-called “diversification of the sources” of Armenia’s security to be correct. Another question is how to do it. In particular, perfect neutrality should be maintained at the state level in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

The people of Ukraine deserve a lot of respect because they have been facing external aggression for a year and a half. By the way, the same can be said about the President of that country, Zelensky, because he, unlike the Prime Minister of Armenia, was able to organize self-defense. That’s why the parallels between Pashinyan and Zelensky seem to me to be irrelevant.

But that’s my opinion, a private person. The State of Armenia should not get involved in the West-Russia or West-East conflict. They are not the games of our scale, and mistakes, as we have seen, cost us a lot.

The same neutrality should be maintained regarding the Hamas-Israel conflict. In our country, it is sometimes viewed from the point of view of the “West-East” game, and based on this; “deep analyses” are made. However, firstly, the problem here is more complicated; secondly, it is absolutely not our business, I mean the Armenian State.

It is not excluded that joining the global games with the “greats of the world” gives some joyful moments to those with inferiority complexes. But these are purely personal pleasures.
