EU Foreign Ministers touch upon the settlement process between Armenia and Azerbaijan
ARMENPRESS. Before the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting on Nov. 13, the ministers of a number of member states held a briefing, during which they highlighted the importance of establishing peace in the South Caucasus, emphasized the importance of upholding Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and expressed hope that these concepts would find their clear manifestation at the Council meeting.
According to Armenpress Brussels correspondent, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized that the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, lasting for more than thirty years, is a central issue for Europe as well.
”Especially in the most difficult geopolitical period, everyone has the same interest to ensure peace and security for everyone in the region.

It is more than worthwhile to strengthen joint efforts to support the peace process,” said the German Foreign Minister, adding that she had recently visited the region.
The German’s Baerbock underscored the importance of the European presence in the region and emphasized that if the EU is not actively involved, other actors will appear very quickly.
“The European platform is the platform that ensures real security, real trust and real peace in the region,” concluded the German Foreign Minister.
The French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna considered it important that the EU Foreign Affairs Council clearly confirms its support for Armenia, that is, to endorse Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
She emphasized the desire to broaden the mandate and resources of the EU mission, as well as to support Armenia through the European Peace Facility.
“I believe it would be fitting for the Council to convey this message today with clarity and firmness. It’s time to do it. We have been talking about this for several weeks,” said Catherine Colonna.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Krišjānis Kariņš also noted that Europe must make its contribution so that Armenia and Azerbaijan finally reach a peaceful solution. “I believe it is possible. Especially if the European Union is behind it,” said Kariņš.
The Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs José Manuel Albares Bueno also briefly touched on the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, noting that Europe must do the utmost to guarantee peace in the South Caucasus, to stabilize the situation and offer support and stability to Armenia after the serious situation created in Nagorno-Karabakh.
