On November 17, together with the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Pia Kauma, and the Secretary General of the OSCE PA, Roberto Montella, we visited the temporary shelter of forcibly displaced people from Nagorno Karabakh located in the enlarged community of Abovyan, Kotayk region.
A comprehensive tour of the shelter was conducted with the accompaniment of regional and community management representatives, private conversations were held with forcibly displaced persons, their conditions of detention, needs assessment, medical care and service, food, and personal hygiene items were examined. Special attention was paid to the state of ensuring the rights of vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
The forcibly displaced persons presented to the Defender, the President of the OSCE PA and the Secretary General the deprivations they suffered during the aggression against Nagorno Karabakh by the armed forces of Azerbaijan, as well as the blockade of the Lachin Corridor, the widespread violations of rights, the real threats to life and security, as well as the problems caused by forced displacement.
