On November 21, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received Leo Housakos, a member of the Senate of Canada.
During the meeting, issues on the agenda of the political dialogue between Armenia and Canada were discussed. Ararat Mirzoyan commended the positive developments of Canada’s increasing involvement both in bilateral relations and the region, emphasizing in this context the opening of the resident Embassy of Canada in Yerevan and Canada’s participation in the EU monitoring mission.
Both sides stressed the importance of consistent efforts to further expand bilateral cooperation in support of the democratic path chosen by Armenia and taking into account the existing friendly ties based on common values.
During the meeting, the interlocutors also exchanged views on the security situation in and around the South Caucasus. Ararat Mirzoyan touched upon the existing challenges, the efforts made towards establishing stability in the region, normalization of relations with Azerbaijan, as well as steps undertaken by the government of the Republic of Armenia to address the needs and rights of forcibly displaced Armenians resulting from the ethnic cleansing of Nagorno-Karabakh.
