Norm of exempting import and alienation of electric vehicles from VAT to be extended until January 1, 2026

The Executive proposes to extend the legal norm of exempting the import and alienation of electric vehicles from value added tax (VAT) until January 1, 2025. The deputy Arsen Torosyan proposed to extend the privilege until January 1, 2026, which was accepted by the Government.

The Deputy Minister of Economy Narek Teryan, who presented the draft at the sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs in the second reading, informed that in 2022 the volume of imports after this privilege amounted to about 2.681 units, which is an increase of 42.3% compared to the previous year, and for the months of January-November 2023 import made 4496 units, which increased by 2.1 times compared to the same period last year.

The deputies Narek Ghahramanyan, Tadevos Avetisyan, Tsovinar Vardanyan, Hayk Tsirunyan and Arsen Torosyan referred to the provision of possible privileges for electric passenger buses, trucks and construction equipment, the possibility of re-exporting imported cars, utilization fees for old cars, updating car parks, the expediency of extending the term and so on. The complex regulation of the problem and the use of other toolkits were highlighted. An opinion was expressed that citizens should be encouraged to purchase electric vehicles, as their operation and maintenance are profitable.

The MPs expressed their support for the adoption of the legislative proposal.
