For the first time in its history, the prestigious GemGenève International Gem and Jewellery Exhibition, hosted a jewellery designer from Armenia
“I practiced taekwondo since I was a child and dreamed of becoming a famous athlete. Occasionally, I would draw. My artistic abilities went unnoticed except by my grandmother. Today, I owe my profession as a jewellery designer to her encouragement,” reveals Shavarsh Hakobyan.
This revelation took place in November 2023 during a special preview evening of GemGenève, International Gem and Jewellery Exhibition. Following welcome messages from exhibition founders Ronny Totah and Thomas Faerber, industry experts and journalists went on to discover the surprises of the 7th edition of the show. Our compatriot, with his unconventional jewellery, stood out as one of the most remarkable revelations. Since GemGenève’s founding in 2018, Shavarsh is the first jewellery designer from Armenia to be selected to participate in this prestigious exhibition as an “Emerging Talent”.
Throughout the four days of the exhibition following the preview, the “Shavarsh Hakobian” booth, situated in the Village des Designers square, became one of the most captivating attractions of GemGenève.
Thanks to the originality of his works, the Armenian jewellery designer, who won the admiration of visitors, will once again gather collectors and industry enthusiasts in Geneva in May 2024, where the biggest novelty of the 8th edition – a pavilion with a delegation of Armenian jewellers – will await them.
Responding to the question, “Why did you choose Shavarsh?” Nadège Totah, Ronnie’s daughter and the curator of the “Emerging talents” section, answered: “His style is genuinely unique, and he himself is very impressive in his modesty.”
The series of lyre-shape rings presented by Shavarsh fascinated the visitors and experts. “This collection was created to fill the lives of the collectors with the melody of happiness,” answered Anna, Shavarsh’s wife, with a smile.
As we eagerly await Shavarsh’s return to Geneva in May 2024, the public can immerse themselves into the melody of his creations.
