Initiative establishes a state duty for export of gold, platinum and palladium ingots

According to the draft, it is proposed to establish a state duty for licenses issued for the purpose of exporting gold, platinum ingots, as well as palladium. According to the indicators of 2023, the export of the abovementioned goods has increased significantly: The RA Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan said, presenting the proposed amendments to the RA Law on State Duty in the first reading.

According to the rapporteur’s assessment, for the first time the foreign trade turnover of our country will exceed 110% of the gross domestic product (GDP), and the negative balance of RA foreign trade will be in the range of -2 to 0%. “It shows that the economic policy that we are conducting brings us quite quickly to the target set by the Government – to increase the export of goods and services to 60% of the GDP,” the Minister mentioned.

“Gold ingots are not produced in Armenia,” Vahan Kerobyan underlined, answering the question of the deputy of Armenia Faction Artur Khachatryan. The Minister added that raw gold is exported from the gold mines of our country. It was noted that about 10 companies in Armenia are engaged in foreign trade of gold, platinum and palladium.

The endorsement of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs was presented by the member of the Committee Hayk Tsirunyan. The deputy urged his colleagues to vote for the draft.

The issue was debated at the NA sitting on February 6.
