At the European Weightlifting Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria, Gor Sahakyan from Armenia, 21 years old, won his second European title in a row.
Competing in the 67 kg category, he lifted a total of 311 kg, earning silver in snatch (140 kg) and gold in clean and jerk (171 kg).
Turkish lifters Kaan Kahriman (310 kg) and Ferdi Ardal (304 kg) took second and third place.

Sahakyan previously won the 67 kg category in Yerevan with a total lift of 370 kg. He also won bronze at the World Championship in Riyadh, lifting 312 kg.
Armenia’s first gold in this championship was won by Alexandra Grigoryan in the 55 kg category, lifting 196 kg. Armenia’s team had 17 lifters, including Rafik Harutyunyan, Andranik Karapetyan, Davit Hovhannisyan, Hakob Mkrtchyan, Garik Karapetyan, Samvel Gasparyan, Petros Petrosyan, Varazdat Lalayan, Simon Martirosyan, Garnik Chaloyan, Ara Aghanyan, Tatev Hakobyan, Liana Gyurjian, and Hripsime Khurshudyan. The men’s team already secured three spots for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
