Senseless topics mask bad governance

February 22,2024 13:30

“We have always had a lost homeland,” Prime Minister Pashinyan recently stated. He’s right; he forgets to add, “because of leaders like me.” Since we had the penultimate loss in 1920, none of the leaders of our country, the first three presidents of the Third Republic, Demirchyan, Kochinyan, or the rest, can be compared to Pashinyan. His “competitors” are the leaders of the First Republic of 1918-20.

The current government, “destroying” the motherland and the state, now, without any logic, says: “There is no homeland, it’s a lie, it’s a false pathos, whining. There is no homeland; there is a state.” In their opinion, these are entirely different things, and by destroying the motherland, they do not kill the state. I do not believe in the crucial importance of conspiracies, betrayals, or foreign agency networks. Of course, they exist everywhere, including in Armenia. But if they could destroy states, no state wouldn’t be left on the face of the earth.

There is good or bad government. In our case, it is a catastrophically wrong government, masked by “modernist” rhetoric against patriotism.

Finally, let me tell you a story, one can say: a fable. Once upon a time, there lived a nasty tailor, a cobbler.

When he sews another bad, ill-fitting suit, the customer complains. But the tailor explains. “For that suit to look beautiful, you should put your left shoulder forward a little, always keep your right hand high, and walk with your legs wide apart.” The customer comes out and starts walking in the street in this way. And the passers-by say: “What a master tailor this was, who could sew a suit for such a disabled person.”

We have at least 680,000 such “passers.”
