On March 5-8 of this year, the meeting of the Commission of the Churches on International Affairs (CCIA) of the WCC dedicated to the close cooperation of churches for the establishment of peace and justice in the world, is taking place in Geneva.
The assembly brought together representatives of the WCC member churches and partner organizations.
At the meeting, within the framework of the activities of the Commission of the Churches on International Affairs, such challenges as the spread of peace through justice and freedom, the effective development of cooperation between international law and international institutions, the protection of fundamental human rights and freedom of religion, oppression based on racial discrimination, the protection of refugees are being discussed along with matters related to the protection of the rights and promotion of welfare of forcibly displaced people and urgent actions to overcome social, cultural, educational and humanitarian problems.
With the blessing of H.H. Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch, Catholicos of All Armenians, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin was represented by the Director of the Mother See’s Department of Christian Mission and Evangelization, and Head of Artsakh’s Spiritual-Cultural Heritage Affairs Department Very Rev. Fr. Garegin Hambardzumyan.
Withing the framework of the gathering, a meeting was held between the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches and Rev. Fr. Garegin Hambardzumyan, during which they discussed the problems faced by Artsakh Armenians who were forcibly displaced from Artsakh, the fair protection of the rights of Artsakh Armenians, the urgency of preserving the cultural heritage of Artsakh and the upcoming steps towards the development of cooperation.
