Several prestigious organizations have nominated Ruben Vardanyan for the Nobel Peace Prize. Our compatriot deserves it; his charitable and humanitarian activities are known in Armenia, Artsakh, and worldwide. This activity is aimed at mutual understanding, mutual assistance, and solidarity among people. In my purely subjective perception, it is based on Christian values, the meaning of which is to overcome one’s own “ego” (which can include various things: comfort, money, fame, security, etc.). He preaches that principle not theoretically but by example. That is Ruben Vardanyan’s main lesson.
I have had many occasions to write and say that I am not interested in politics as such. The political, unfavorable processes we face today reflect the vices of our society. That is why education and culture are priorities. For purely political reasons, the Armenian authorities are not interested in Ruben’s return to the homeland, and even now, when he is in the hands of the enemy, they “direct” their propagandists to continue making absurd accusations against Ruben. I am still determining how he will participate in Armenian politics after his return.
But I have a dream. Just as that philanthropist restored the Tatev monastery (among our and not only our monasteries and many other cultural institutions), so may he recreate the Tatev University to combine our science and education traditions with the achievements of the 21st century. And let all that happen in the ancient land of Syunik.
…Recently “Forbes” presented the list of the wealthiest people in the world. Armenians are also there (not in a leading position). But the only person who is exclusively a citizen of Armenia and is from Armenia is Ruben Vardanyan. Unfortunately, I see a specific pattern in that this very person is in the enemy’s prison.
