The Deputy Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Rustam Bakoyan, the Committee members Zemfira Mirzoeva, Tigran Parsilyan and Marina Ghazaryan met with the representatives of the Venice Commission and the CoE Directorate General for Human Rights and Rule of Law. The goal of the meeting was to get acquainted with the viewpoints of the Committee members on the RA draft law on National Minorities.
Welcoming the guests, Rustam Bakoyan underscored the active cooperation with the international structures, in that context also highlighting the cooperation existing with the Venice Commission.
Rustam Bakoyan presented certain observations and proposals on the draft. The Committee members underlined the necessity of having a law on national minorities and noted that they plan to have debates on that occasion with the concerned structures, as well as the representatives of 11 national minorities residing in Armenia. It was noted that some provisions in the draft law need to be amended.
The interlocutors debated issues relating to the draft, as well as the theme, stressed the readiness for collaboration.
