Response of the “Civil Contract” to diplomats

May 16,2024 13:30

I have repeatedly noted that the style of “politics” in “Civil Contract” (Nicol) is slander, blackmail, and labeling. Look at any text of questions and answers of the NA-Government, speeches of members of the CC, press conferences of the Prime Minister, and make sure of this.

Last example: The Pan-Armenian Council of Diplomats published a brief document and expressed its views on the process of Armenian-Azerbaijani “demarcation.” Civil Contract’s response was typical: “Those diplomats are deserters” and, therefore, what they said should not be taken seriously.

What did the diplomats say?

Firstly/ Delimitation and demarcation of borders between two countries without a comprehensive peace treaty and diplomatic relations is unprecedented in diplomatic practice.

2/ The Almaty Declaration does not describe borders.

3/ The borders of the Soviet republics of Armenia and Azerbaijan were determined by two legal processes: the decisions of the Supreme Councils of the two republics in 1928-29, as well as the decisions of the Armenian-Azerbaijani joint commissions in 1984-87.

The considerations, as you can see, are purely professional. In a normal country, a government with sufficient intelligence and knowledge would respond with substance, perhaps object or agree. But this is not the style of the CC. Their style is to put insulting labels and curses on social media. In this context, there is another “killer argument.”

– You want us to refuse to negotiate, thereby provoking war.

I don’t know who or how, but the diplomats who wrote the document say the opposite: START negotiations and stop unilateral concessions.
