The “Tavush for the Motherland” movement, under the leadership of Reverend Bagrat, are staging a protest in front of the building of the Investigative Committee.
Elinar Vardanyan, deputy of the National Assembly “Hayastan” faction, presented their demands. Let’s remind that 28 people were arrested during the demonstration held near the Foreign Ministry building on May 31. “According to the Investigative Committee, criminal proceedings have been initiated by the main department of investigation for particularly important cases under the first part of Article 327 of the RA Criminal Code. As a result, a decision was made to arrest the aforementioned 28 individuals.”
Twenty-eight individuals have not been charged, which means that between 3 and 5 o’clock today, they should be released from detention. Due to the high number of arrests, some individuals had to be transferred to facilities in Masis and Abovyan. These people were detained for 72 hours, essentially serving a punishment. Detaining someone for 72 hours without cause in a substandard detention facility has nothing to do with human norms. Why were these individuals deprived of their freedom for 72 hours? Simply because they exercised their constitutional rights, as they do not agree with the partitioning of their country, they don’t agree that our country should be given to the enemy in parts,” said Elinar Vardanyan.
Elinar Vardanyan also addressed the criminal proceedings initiated against leaders of the Artsakh communities. ‘Proceedings are underway against the leaders of Martakert, Askeran, and Stepanakert communities. Why were they save community property? Who is the victim in this case?’ Azerbaijan has seized thousands of properties belonging to these communities; where are those properties now? Show me a single criminal case initiated against Azerbaijan related to the properties of these communities.”
