“How many people are satisfied with the CC if most of the people are in the squares and streets?” – Mher Melkonyan

June 11,2024 13:30

Mher Melkonyan, a member of the National Assembly from the ARF, elected from the Shirak region, told Aravot.am that although the Council of the National Assembly rejected the petition of the opposition factions “Hayastan” and “I Have Honor” to convene an extraordinary session, an extraordinary session will still be held on June 17th according to the law. This session was supposed to include the NA massage on the resignation of the government and the formation of a new government.

“The government maintains that there is a prime minister who has received the people’s vote of confidence, and they will remain in office until the next elections in 2026. These people don’t see anything beyond the police barbed wire; they don’t understand the real life in Armenia. They don’t want to acknowledge that the people’s dissatisfaction is very significant and that the situation has changed drastically in Armenia. Whether they like it or not, they will have to reckon with the people.

They hide behind the police. If there is no problem in the country and if they enjoy the people’s trust as they claim, why don’t they come down and talk to the same people? Instead, we see only illegal arrests and detentions.

They are spreading fake photos and videos, suggesting that the number of people joining the movement is very small. It’s clear that this is a fake propaganda machine of the CC (Civil Contract). We witness and know how many people gather. Seeing the number of participants in the demonstrations, we ask: how many people are satisfied with the CC if most of the people are in the squares and streets?

The government is detached from the situation. They have no idea what is happening in Armenia and looking at all this with rose-tinted glasses is immoral,” said the deputy.

He also mentioned that it is a decisive stage for the Republic of Armenia.

“Azerbaijan presents new demands day by day: will you change the Constitution, sign a new peace agreement? If it does not see force in front of it, it will dictate its will. But if it gets hit in the nose and mouth once, it will start to think whether it is worth dictating new demands and threatening. It is a decisive stage for our country. We may leave a small homeland to future generations or no homeland at all. The salvation of the homeland depends on our determination, unity, and united actions.

They have developed a false agenda, equating the salvation of the homeland with the return of the former authorities, which is an already beaten, unheard thesis. During the previous era, at least we did not have very serious security problems. Today, it is not the social issues that concern the people but the issues of security and territorial integrity,” said Mher Melkonyan.
