Turkey openly supports the spread of the false concept of “Western Azerbaijan”

June 12,2024 20:15

Turkey, with whose assistance Azerbaijan occupied Artsakh, continues to support Aliyev’s genocidal regime in the development and dissemination of fabricated and anti-Armenian theses.

A few days ago, the delegation headed by Mahmut Ozer, the chairman of the National Commission for Education, Culture, Youth and Sports of, Turkey’s parliament, met with the representatives of the so-called “West Azerbaijan” community. This community focuses on the issue of “deported Azerbaijanis from Armenia” and is involved in developing and disseminating false anti-Armenian narratives under state sponsorship. During the meeting, they discussed the so-called “Western Azerbaijan” that unifies the Oghuz-Turkic lands.

By raising the issue of the “return of Azerbaijanis who left Armenia,” Azerbaijan is trying to assert territorial claims over the Republic of Armenia and counter the legitimate demands of forcibly displaced Armenians of Artsakh to return to their homes and exercise their right to self-determination.

During the meeting, M. Ozer noted that he would hold discussions with his colleagues in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to more closely support the issue of “West Azerbaijan.” He proposed jointly publishing a trilingual book on the subject in Azerbaijani, Turkish, and English. This further demonstrates the distortion of historical facts and the spreading of these falsehoods in the international community.

Previously, the “Western Azerbaijan” false thesis was predominantly circulated in Azerbaijan. However, Turkey is now actively promoting this falsehood. The genocidal and criminal policies of those countries towards the Armenian people have not been condemned by the international community. This impunity will lead to further crimes.
