On June 17, the Head of the NA Friendship Group Armenia-Austria Shirak Torosyan the member of the Friendship Group, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration Arman Yeghoyan met with the Chair of the Committee on Human Rights of the National Council of Austria Nikolaus Scherak.
Welcoming the guest, Shirak Torosyan noted the significant progress of the Armenian-Austrian relations in recent years. “Austria is very important for us as a key country of the European Union. The deepening of the Armenian-Austrian relations, including at parliamentary level and in multilateral format, is very important for us,” the Head of the Friendship Group underlined. He added that the Armenian-Austrian relations also register progress as a result of the activity of the Austrian Development Agency (ADA). In the last years, the rapprochement of the inter-parliamentary ties of the two countries in different formats was underscored.
Shirak Torosyan presented to Nikolaus Scherak the ongoing delimitation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Crossroads of Peace project of the RA Government, highlighted the unblocking process in the normalization of the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, the development of the trade-economic relations by opening the roads and having normal communication. In this context the Head of the Friendship Group emphasized the border stability, in which the EU Civilian Mission had significant role. It was noted the during the activity of the Mission the border situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan essentially stabilized.
During the meeting the Armenian MPs touched upon the issue of the visa liberalisation with the EU, the importance of having an Embassy of Austria in Armenia and the regional problems.

The Chair of the Committee on Human Rights of the National Council of Austria Nikolaus Scherak highlighted the rapprochement of the relations with our country, referred to the difficulties of the visa liberalisation process, and underscored the importance of democracy.
“It is very important for us to have good relationship in the region, the best partner for us is Armenia,” Nikolaus Scherak said particularly, regarding the regional issues.
The interlocutors also talked about other issues of common interest.
