“The Head of the Government Had His Eye on This Area to Give to One of His Friends…They Wanted to Take It Away.” – Reverend Bagrat

June 22,2024 17:01

Yesterday in Getahovit, Reverend Bagrat showed journalists the rehabilitation center they have built for children with cancer and their parents. The center will be put into operation soon. The bishop made a remarkable statement. At first, he reminded that the authorities were spreading various rumors related to this building, claiming that the money was wasted and so on. At the press conference, the bishop first presented in detail how much money was spent and on what.

He explained: “There was a recreational zone here during the Communist period, then it was transferred to the Ministry of Defense. In April 2018, it was given to us, the Diocese of Tavush, by the decision of the government. Then there was a change of government, and for a year and a half, they tortured me with different papers and people who had interests.”

When asked if they wanted to turn it into a hotel, restaurant, or kebab shop, the reverend responded: “Things like that. Even that man, the head of today’s government, probably had his eyes set on giving it to one of his friends, because he had instructed Tigran Avinyan to handle it. Hayk Chobanyan, the governor of the region, is aware of it, and many deputies were informed by me. In short, they wanted to take it away.”

Reverend Bagrat did not specify which relative Pashinyan wanted to take the territory for. “I can’t say. They said, that they will invest 20 million, they will do this, they will do that. They say: we have to take it, give it to the development of the community… but the picture was clear. I clearly said it couldn’t be. I said: the prime minister of the country cannot deal with cadastral affairs; let him deal with his business.”
