According to the current law, the brother who is being conscripted is sent to the military unit of the brother who is in service, if the latter’s term of service has not exceeded 17 months or the military unit is subject to replenishment within the framework of the announced conscription. The Government proposes to make the 17-month service period 18 months. The package of draft laws on Making Amendments and Addenda to the Law on Military Service and the Status of a Serviceman was debated at the extraordinary sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security on June 25.
According to the key rapporteur, the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Arman Sargsyan, according to the current legislation, a serviceman is exempted from mandatory military service if he has a parent or brother or sister who deceased (died) during the combat operations of the defense of the Republic of Armenia. According to the Deputy Minister, the above-mentioned provision of the law does not apply to servicemen conscripted by the ‘I Have the Honor’ programme. Therefore, with the amendment, it is planned to make the provision applicable to the conscripted servicemen under the ‘I Have the Honor’ programme as well.
The package of draft laws also clarifies the relations regarding the implementation of the administration of the applications submitted for the purpose of calculating the compensation by the ex-servicemen who have been released from the contractual military service and have unused vacation days and have not received or partially received compensation for them.
The legislative package was endorsed.
