“At the world championship of cynicism, PACE led the group of leaders in international structures. Once it was a platform of values, now it is a platform of political interests. At one time, the RA authorities were fighting against Azerbaijan there, now they are fighting against their own people,” said RPA vice-chairman and political prisoner Armen Ashotyan in court on June 28 in response to journalists’ questions. He was commenting on the PACE Resolution on the obligations undertaken by Armenia and its implementation, which praised the police reforms and their working style.
The resolution also included a claim: “The Assembly notes that after the forced displacement of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, some rallies organized by opposition parties demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Pashinyan in Armenia became violent when the protesters tried to forcefully invade government buildings.”
Armen Ashotyan also addressed the question of Armenia’s EU membership referendum: “There is no place for geopolitical beggars in the EU.”
