Artur Hovhannisyan: We straightforwardly promote the peace agenda, in an effort to resolve every issue with our neighbours

The RA NA delegation to OSCE participates in the works of the Annual Session going on in Bucharest. The member of the RA NA delegation Artur Hovhannisyan gave a speech during the Session. In his speech the Armenian MP said:

“Dear colleagues,

One would hardly disagree that the most suitable environment for a human to live in – is the state. And the environment where one can live being protected, free and can prosper – is the democratic state, where free elections are a fundamental value.

Unfortunately, right now, democracy is under a direct and very intense attack. Not the territorial integrity of states, not even human rights, but exactly democracy. Because without democracy neither territorial integrity nor human rights can be protected.

Today, democracy needs to be defended more than ever, and, therefore, mobilization and joint effort of democratic countries is required to fight against authoritarianism in order to safeguard the freedom of our peoples.

Against this backdrop, my country – Armenia, is steadily moving along the path of democracy, towards the EU, towards democratic values. And in this uneasy fight for the victory of freedom and independence, my people seek and expect the support of democratic countries.

We straightforwardly promote the peace agenda, in an effort to resolve every issue with our neighbours. In this context, I must once again emphasize the project “Crossroads of Peace” proposed by Armenia to the countries of the region, which essence is coexistence and peace. In these processes, the role of the European family is extremely important. Therefore, there is no freedom, no peace without democracy.

Long live democracy.”
