On July 8, the RA NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport organized a work debate, the agenda of which was the draft law on making addenda and amendments to the Law on Libraries and Library Work authored by the Government and adopted by the National Assembly in the first reading. The debate was attended by the specialists-representatives of the republican, regional, communal and private libraries, experts in the field, the representatives of libraries of educational institutions. The purpose was to highlight the existing concerns, uncertainties, contradictions or omissions regarding the regulations defined by the draft before the debate in the second reading, as well as to present proposals.
The participants of the debate presented a number of proposals and remarks to the Deputy Chair of the Committee Taguhi Ghazaryan and the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Alfred Kocharyan, which mostly related to volunteer work in libraries, the issue regarding the status of electronic libraries, the certification of library employees, low salaries in the field, lack of personnel, ancient books, etc:
It was proposed to revise and specify a number of provisions fixed in the draft.
The second reading of the draft is planned to be debated during the NA autumn session.
